The April One Card Draw is now OPEN CLOSED! Thank you for participating!

Comment and I will pull a card for you from my original, unique bird oracle deck. Anyone and everyone is welcome! The more detail you give in your request, the better I can interpret the card's meaning for you, which is my role as intermediary, however, even just a general request will get my best effort; it's up to you. For privacy, you may post anonymously; sponsors may choose to get their reading via private message.

If you are facing a choice, the cards may help point in the most positive direction for you. You may request an overall card to meditate upon. You might want a card to let you know what new thing may come into your life in the near future, or what is the most important thing facing you at this time. You may ask a specific question and we will see if the universal subconscious can answer it for you. However you use this opportunity, I hope it will be helpful!

Today, I'm working for tips; please support my work if you can! All sponsors may request a second card! (This may be a new question or more detail on the original question, whatever you prefer!)
If total tips exceed $25, I will select from all sponsors to receive a free Wings reading. At $50, a random sponsor will receive a Simple Nest reading. At $75, everyone gets into the running to win a Wings read, and at $100, everyone gets a chance at a Simple Nest. Thank you for your support!
Can't afford to tip? Spread the word! Post a link to my draw in at least two different places and you can request a second card! Thank you!

Update: We didn't achieve an incentive this month. I'll be retooling for next month!

As always, please see the disclaimer on my profile page. Also, remember that you can purchase a read at any time from that same profile page or from my website!

I am a deeply independent person. I'm an atheist who never had a need for a god, and still doesn't. These are very, very important things to know about me. While I have always and ever understood the importance of community, I've also always gone my own way, following my path where it led me, come what may. At this point in my life, that same path leaves me here, discovering the depths of humility and service that have been untapped within me all these years.

Leonard Cohen serves a different spirit than I do, but he understands. This song, as a great song can do, has grown beyond itself and become a new thing many times over, but this incarnation, the first one, is all about Mr. Cohen's service to the spirit of music, the "Lord of Song".

The lyrics, so you can read along:
"Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
..."

The simple song that David, in legend, wrote, has moved people of all faiths since the beginning, and it was this that drove this song. He, and David, were, in his eyes, servants to the same passion, the same spirit.

This kind of service is one of incomprehensible gratitude, of deep humility, where one's willingness doesn't even enter the equation. No matter what, no matter whether we fail or succeed, no matter whether we are even understood, we will give our all.

The music came to him. He did not ask for it. The birds came to me; I did not ask for them.
But I am so very, deeply glad they came. I, who will submit to no one, who am still so intensely independent, whose most cherished concept is freedom...I am glad to be in the service of this thing that is greater than myself. It is not a yoke around my neck; it is a gift, and I am beyond grateful, inexplicably grateful for this gift for which I would never have asked.

The "hallel" part of "hallelujah" ultimately derives from the word "trill", which is a word and a sound that I, at least, associate strongly with birds.

I fall on my knees. I fall on my knees. I raise up my arms. I raise them and let them dance. And I trill with all my heart...

M. C. A. Hogarth has created a very cool choose-your-own reading! I thought some of you might be interested. :)
wrenstarling: A peacock (Peacock)
I asked, on this Winter Solstice, what the universe wanted to share with us. Two cards insisted on presenting themselves.

The first makes me laugh, because it is heavily associated with worshiping the sun! The Osprey is a noble bird, able to attract prey by sheer charisma, but with a high code of honor. First and foremost, respect others as you respect yourself (and vice versa), even those one clashes with, showing respect via restraint. This bird sees through rationalizations and self deception as well as other illusions. Splash in. Eat fish. This bird is drawn to water as well as the sun, and speaks also of the harmony of sun and water.

The second card is Roadrunner. This bird, unsurprisingly, is first and foremost about SPEED! This includes multitasking, being verbally quick, and mental agility, too! Roadrunners are also tough and quick enough to take on a rattlesnake. While independence is good and natural for this bird, it also warns that independence can backfire, so don't be afraid to accept a little help if you need it.

Both these cards are strong and fierce, without being aggressive. Osprey loves the sun with us and reminds us to love the water as well, and to enjoy the play of the two together. Examine purselves for delusions, deceptions and rationalizations and face the truth. Roadrunner drives us to hit the ground running; we can do everything we need to do, mostly on our own, but we must be sure to take help when we need it. Go forward...into the light.

Happy/Merry/Blessed/Sacred Solstice!

The December One Card Draw is now OPENCLOSED! This is a special birthday draw; I'm hoping to make enough to fund a consolidated website; I have an offer from a friend and I need about $175155 (my memory was a bit off and my friend gave me a discount by way of donation). If I make it, I'll give away a complex nest read! I will read till this evening, but anyone who chooses to sponsor after I'm done will get their card in the morning!

Final Update: We met the first two incentives; I'll do the drawing for the Wings and Simple Next readings for sponsors later today. Thanks so much, everyone! I appreciate your support! :) While I didn't make my goal, another friend inspired me to empty my piggy bank; hopefully, I'll have enough to make up the difference! You guys got me just shy of halfway, and that's nothing to sneeze at! Thank you!

I realize that I never held my October one card draw; sorry about that! It was a very busy month for me personally, and I just ran out of time! But the birds are getting cranky at me, so here I am, good servant that I am!

In case you were wondering what's so awesome about starlings, here's a new video currently going viral of a starling murmuration. :)

Murmuration from Sophie Windsor Clive on Vimeo.

Interestingly, October was the month of the sparrow this year. You might have expected crow, or raven, or even Canadian goose, but it was sparrow that kept fluttering into view. These small, everyday birds are a constant reminder that everyone has value, everyone has something to offer the larger community. They are benevolent household spirits, reminding us to be gentle with ourselves and others and that a clean house is far less important than a loving home. As we swing into a season often ripe with stress and judgement, I hope we can all hold on to this message and keep light in our hearts, letting our heavy burdens slip from our shoulders.

November's one card draw will be this Tuesday, the 15th! I will do another full day of readings, and have a special incentive, so stop by!

I wanted to share this article with you. Woodpeckers are a very special bird; there is no bird more closely entwined with trees. Their way of feeding involves delicately picking through the bark as well as the hammering they are better known for; they are truly the woodcarver. They would tell us how important every small part of the world is to the larger whole...and we should listen.
