wrenstarling: A peacock (Peacock)
When I was nearly done writing the bird oracle, I had a sudden stroke of inspiration, and added one more creature to the mix: the Bat.
The bat is the only truly flying mammal, making it very special indeed. Add to that the facts that bats are generally quite dark, live in caves, and are nocturnal, and it's easy to see why they show up all over the place in myth and legend.
In my oracle, the bat represents the unexpected, the thing that upends everything. The bat also represents making peace with one's dark side and finding the good in things that seem unpleasant.
In its most general sense, the bat speaks of the warm and the dark and the unpredictability of life.

Life IS unpredictable, which is why it is so important to learn to ride the winds of fortune that will blow you up, down and around; we control what we can, but so much is out of our hands, we must be nimble on our feet indeed. Remember the great virtue of flexibility!
