I'm glad to be back after two months away. While we are glad to have moved in with my mother, my grandmother passed away on September fifth. In her memory, I am asking that all support this month go to Meals On Wheels. When I was little, I often went with my grandmother as we brought meals to the elderly and housebound. It's a cause I still support and encourage others to support as well. As usual, I will be doing readings as I can, finishing up tomorrow morning to give all time zones access. (Those in countries other than the USA, feel free to donate to Meals On Wheels in your country instead!)

The more detail you give in your request, the better I can interpret the card's meaning for you, which is my role as intermediary, however, even just a general request will get my best effort; it's up to you. Hello! Card, please?

I have finally accepted the idea that I'm supposed to be in a leadership role. (Blech.) But I'm a little... fuzzy... on exactly what I'm supposed to be doing with that, which is causing me to not really do a whole lot of anything.

Because at first, I had this idea that it was supposed to be something really specific... a thing I would really love to have happen, whether or not it starts with me (but you know, sometimes if you want a thing done, you have to do it yourself).

But now I'm wondering if it's more of a "Whatever you want to do, as long as it's something that gets you off your butt and into the community." Like... become an ordained minister so I can really help with certain rites within the Pagan community that, without an ordained minister, won't be recognized as legal.

So... basically, I'm looking for some direction on whether or not the gods are saying "Become an ordained minister and then do whatever you feel like" or "do THIS THING, THIS THING RIGHT HERE."

I asked the cards both questions and whether you should just rest but didn't get a response...when I asked HOW you should rest, Thunderbird immediately presented itself. This is the mythical bird of storms, intelligent, powerful and wrathful; be careful not to anger, show respect.

I asked how you could move forward and drew Simurgh, the mythical bird of wisdom/all knowledge. This feminine bird is the spreader of seeds, full of compassion and love, and about the divine within.

Not exactly an easy answer, but an answer, anyway!

I drew two cards at once for you, because that's what felt correct; I'd intended when I started to do one then the other. I drew Stork and Quail. Stork is about birth, home and hearth, familial duty, the bringing of a person to new life. Storks are silent, communicating through body language and bill clapping. They are noted enemies of snakes.
Your second card was Quail, the tremble of fear or questioning, names/naming/soul name, something on the tip of the tongue. This bird is about the deep subconscious brain. Listen to your instinct to seek safety if it is speaking to you. Trust your instincts generally and don't be afraid to move quickly in response to them. This is also a bird of humility and even touches on the concept of invisibility.

There's a lot of meat here; I hope the greater context you have to put it in makes it helpful!

I think I've drawn Bluejay for you before. You need to find or cultivate a Bluejay type in your life, I think; this is the cheerful, flexible opportunist, confident and fearless, a scapegrace or rogue. Sounds like you need a jolt of happy and shameless in your life!

I don't remember ever having seen Bluejay before. Of course, I got through having cancer twice by being "cheerful, flexible... confident and fearless", but I'll admit I'm not usually much of an opportunist, scapegrace, or rogue. But I think I got a good dose of "happy and shameless" on Wednesday - which is why I haven't answered email and journals until now ;-)
My husband and I spent mid-morning [redacted]ing (after a long medical hiatus), which made me shamelessly happy! And later we finally used the gift card we'd been given last Xmas for a really nifty Japanese restaurant, which was also a happy thing to do.

I drew Partridge. This bird represents the small, invisible one who turns out to be meaner and tougher than expected. Partridge has bad luck in gambling, so the person getting this card is advised against taking a gamble at this time, and should probably avoid heights as well. This bird may herald the death of one who has done great harm and/or speak of taking joy in the death of one's enemy. Finally, this bird is also a symbol of fecundity; easy, frequent, or large pregnancies.

I'm glad acclimating to the new baby is going well! I drew Skylark. In the coldest of times, there is still freshness. This bird of winter speaks of the soil of the earth in which good things grow, the Earth and Sun, spirals, sacred voice/sacred song, just listening, the warming of body and soul, and seeking/loving the sun/light.

I asked what the next three months hold for you and Woodpecker was my answer. This bird is the drummer, linked to thunder and the heartbeat. This bird is also most closely intertwined with trees and wood and therefore is the woodcarver.
Do what seems obvious to you even if it doesn't seem obvious to others. Whatever works! Trust your core instinct.
There is also a deep sense of dryness about this bird.
Finally, Woodpecker is very good at searching every nook and cranny, with an eye for detail. You might emulate him.

I drew Pigeon/Dove. (They're the same bird. Doves are smaller, lighter colored varieties.) This is THE bird, the foundation upon which the concept of bird may be built. They are solid in every area a bird needs; strong, maneuverable fliers, highly adaptable, and they are the only bird that can suck water. They are also deeply intertwined with humanity, both positively and negatively. The most powerful word associated with this bird is HOME, in as many ways as the word can be thought of and interpreted.

I drew Pelican. These ancient birds echo the great carnivorous dinosaurs; they will look you in the eye while they eat you alive. These birds, good, but tough parents, are pious, cooperative out of necessity, brutal and sacrificial in the same breath. They remind us that those who live by the sword, die by the sword.

I hope you can find a positive spin for this card!

I drew a card for your contemplation and got Wren. The wren brought fire and is king of the birds, due mostly to its small, nonthreatening appearance and lovely song. Wren teaches us about resourcefulness, about the "power behind the throne", and about unexpectedly big things in small packages. Also associated with work, crafting, woodwork, carpentry and wizardry, this is the bird of magic.
